The school opened on September 24th 2012 to mark the beginning of the 2012/2013 academic year. Both Froebel and Montessori methods are being applied to give the pupils a head start for primary school education. These methods firstly allow children to engage in psychological self-construction by means of interaction with their environments, secondly children, especially under the age of six, have an innate path of psychological development. It is widely acknowledged that children are at liberty to choose and act freely within an environment prepared according to the two models and will act spontaneously for optimal development.

School Roll A total of 90 children were enrolled; comprising of 38 boys and 52 girls. The children are divided into two large classrooms; 45 children in levels one and two 45 children in level three.

Staff The school is run by Head teacher Mrs Fatou Jallow assisted by two teachers Marie Sambou, Bakering Ceesay, one janitor and one security man.

Resources There are some teaching/resource materials available but they are not enough. We always improvise to meet the needs of the children. The school needs the following; bell, wall clock, television and textbooks. We need extract materials such as pin boards for displaying of children’s works and some of the school activities done. Garden tools, play ground equipment and cleaning materials are also needed.

Uniforms Children received their new uniforms-one set per child. Some uniform material is still with us but it will not be enough for all the children to have a second set. Some uniform material should be purchased to sew a second set of uniforms for the children. The term ended on December 12th and a party was organized for all the children. The children went home happily.

The 2nd term will start on 7th January 2013 with the same number of children, now that everyone has settled in activities will be developed to better suit the individuals during the next two terms.
